Bustabit: how the original crash game works

Bustabit is the crash game that started it all: a shared Bitcoin round where the multiplier climbs from 1.00x and busts at a random point. How Bustabit works

All players bet on the same round. When it starts, the multiplier rises; cash out before it busts to win your stake times the multiplier. Bustabit’s results come from a chain of SHA-256 hashes generated in advance, revealed one game at a time.

The Bustabit formula

Bustabit’s open-source verifier computes each result like this: HMAC-SHA256 with the published salt as the key and the game hash as the message; take the first 52 bits as a number X between 0 and 1; the bust is the larger of 1.00x and ⌊99 ÷ (1 − X)⌋ ÷ 100. Dividing 99 instead of 100 is the 1% house edge.
