What is a hash in provably fair games?

By · Last updated 31 October 2026

The output of a one-way function such as SHA-256. Any change to the input changes the hash completely, and the input can't be worked out from the hash, which is what makes seed commitments trustworthy.

Why it matters

Ghana example: on a GH₵40 bet, a 1.50x cash out pays GH₵60. See the term in action in our Aviator Ghana guide.

Hashes let a game commit to a result without revealing it.

In practice

SHA-256 and SHA-512 are the most common hash functions in provably fair games. Both are one-way: you can check a seed against its hash in microseconds, but finding a seed for a given hash is computationally out of reach.

Example

SHA-256(“abc”) always gives the same 64-character result.
