What is the Martingale strategy?

By · Last updated 31 October 2026

A progression that doubles the bet after each loss and resets after a win, so one win recovers previous losses plus one unit. Bets grow exponentially and long losing streaks bust the bankroll.

Why it matters

Quick rand example: R50 cashed out at 3x returns R150. Funding a session? Start with Ozow instant EFT.

It’s the most-searched crash strategy and the one most likely to empty a bankroll.

In practice

At a 2x target the sequence of bets after losses is 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 units: six losses cost 63 units. Our simulator found that with 50 units, about half of 100-round sessions went bust. Read the full Martingale guide.

Example

50, 100, 200, 400… after four losses, the fifth bet is R800.
